Just in time for summer!

This summer Downingtown residents are going to be able to enjoy a new kind of ice treat, New Orleans' style SnoBalls!

Different from water ice or frozen yogurt, this style of shaved ice isn't something most of us in PA are used to. Borough native James Hughes has opened a franchise of Pelican’s SnoBalls at the former home of Crazy Cone at 807 West Lancaster Avenue, at the corner of Lloyd Avenue.

Hughes said ““It’s a completely different product than water ice… SnoBalls are ‘fluffy’ like the snow you eat in the winter.”

The location was previously an ice cream stand, Crazy Cone, and a Polish Water Ice before that. The Pelican's brand is more popular in the south as this is the furthest north they have opened a franchise locations.
